I would take that as an indication that it's time to disassemble and clean
the carbs.  

However, it might be worth hooking up a gauge to check fuel pressure at the
carbs, when the problem occurs; as sometimes there can be intermittent
problems with fuel delivery.  Most vacuum test gauges will also read fuel
pressure, so just 'tee' the gauge into the line at the rear carb, lead the
line out from under the bonnet, and trap the gauge under a wiper blade where
you can see it while driving.  If you can still see a minimum of 1 psi (2 is
spec as I recall), then fuel delivery is not the issue.
