   Discs are better or else why would all new cars have discs?

   Basically, they cool better.  In a Tiger with discs on the rear, they will have stable proportioning.

   And the pads can run (slip) right on the disc, even when adjusted to the max, drums

   Yeah, aluminum drums might have a slight weight advantage, maybe not when you add the

    I agree that drums are fine and that people over state the benefit of discs.  For me, it was simply because my self adjusting versions were a disaster.  I did everything I could to get all new parts, install correctly, etc., and they just never worked right.  So I thought I'd go with the discs on the Alpine for the why the heck not.  I just haven't gotten to it yet.

        I would guess that one could do some careful parts-bin engineering and end up with a rear drum setup that weighed significantly less than any equally effective rear disc setup. Datsun 240Z's came with aluminum rear drums (still with the cast iron liner, of course) and it would not be a huge effort to adapt the backplates so that all that stuff would bolt right on. You would probably even get automatic adjusters in the bargain. But rear discs have that certain je ne sais quoi...

          I've often wondered about the "need" to go to rear discs on the Tiger, as the front brakes are asked to do pretty much all the work on our cars. I've never had issues with the rear drums in very hard use (with decent high temp linings). The fronts did require some work ;)

                has anyone recently tried the fiat 124 rear conversion, most things I have read were from years ago. my interest is in maintaining use of 13" wheels and I have a set of the fiat caliper/brackets..and car is used for street use only, limited auto cross
