Yes, and do the judges pass a color blind test
before they are certified to judge? I have clothing that some call off-white and
others call slightly gray and yet I see a hint of green. As far as “...no
da swirls,” well only if there were no swirls from the factory. But
then..., what is original? Say there were no swirls from the factory but in the
dealer prep process they appeared. And the first time buyer never sees the car
until after dealer prep. So, what is original? Will it get to the point
that judges microscopically check the barely discernable swirl spacing, test the
tires for 1960’s air? A while back I recall reading about judging to the extent
that points were awarded because there was a hint of grease on the Zerk fitting
and that was deemed “more original!”

I know this all sounds a bit absurd but in
the world of one-upmanship there is always someone who wants to outdo the next
guy. And the negative side of that can be some are left feeling lacking because
their cars aren’t “there” and the joy of ownership gets lost in the
pursuit.

A quick note, when I had my Healey and went to many shows no Healeys had
the same brg shades, some darker ,some more blue, mixing was less an art than
today, but they all looked great!! Beau.
