Ask me how I know. </div><div name="BB10" id="BB10_response_div_BBPPID" dir="auto" style="width:100%;">I am lucky to live in an ethanol-free gas pump Province. ( Nova Scotia) However, our Province to the north,</div><div name="BB10" id="BB10_response_div_BBPPID" dir="auto" style="width:100%;">(New Brunswick) is not.</div><div name="BB10" id="BB10_response_div_BBPPID" dir="auto" style="width:100%;"> Returning home from a trip through N.B. in the early days of ignorance about evil ethanol, I filled up with some e-fuel, and put the car away with about 1/2 tank for the winter. Big Mistake.</div><div name="BB10" id="BB10_response_div_BBPPID" dir="auto" style="width:100%;"><br></div><div name="BB10" id="BB10_response_div_BBPPID" dir="auto" style="width:100%;">In the spring, getting the car out resulted in nasty surprise: it wouldn't start.</div><div name="BB10" id="BB10_response_div_BBPPID" dir="auto" style="width:100%;"><br></div><div name="BB10" id="BB10_response_div_BBPPID" dir="auto" style="width:100%;">Investigation revealed the float bowl was laden with a thick "gummy" paste. Long story short, not only the carb had to be cleaned, but everything from the tanks, through the filters, fuel pump and rubber fuel line connectors were fouled with this ugly stuff. The fuel tanks, pump diaphragm, full filters and rubber line connectors had to be cleaned and/or replaced. </div><div name="BB10" id="BB10_response_div_BBPPID" dir="auto" style="width:100%;"><br></div><div name="BB10" id="BB10_response_div_BBPPID" dir="auto" style="width:100%;">If you put your car away with a partially filled tank of ethanol laced fuel, any condensation that forms on the tank above the fuel level will combine with the ethanol and form this gummy paste on the bottom, and get sucked up through the fuel line into the carb. </div><div name="BB10" id="BB10_response_div_BBPPID" dir="auto" style="width:100%;"><br></div><div name="BB10" id="BB10_response_div_BBPPID" dir="auto" style="width:100%;">Disaster ensues.</div><div name="BB10" id="BB10_response_div_BBPPID" dir="auto" style="width:100%;"><br></div><div name="BB10" id="BB10_response_div_BBPPID" dir="auto" style="width:100%;">Always put your car away with a full tank, and use fuel stabilizer to keep the fuel fresh. Up here in N.S. we also use "SeaFoam" additive. The rubber diaphragm was a total mess when I took that pump apart. I really don’t know how it worked long enough to get me home but so glad it did. </p><p class="MsoNormal"> </p><p class="MsoNormal">The article in Auto Restorer is about a gear pump that is compatible with modern fuel bends.
