<p>What I've done is use the shaft out of an old 302 distributor, without the cam gear on it, to turn the oil pump drive to where I need it. You can also use a socket and long extension, but you'll want to weld the socket to the extension so it doesn't fall
off.</p>

<div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: small;">Ok, I got the distributor out, cleaned everything up, and went to put it back in. Problem. It will only go all the way down with the gear one tooth off from where it came out. If I start putting it in
with the rotor pointing where it stopped as I pulled it out, the gear engages and it looks like it will rotate into the right position, but it won't go down all the way. If I start with it one tooth ccw, it goes in just fine, but the rotor is not in the original
position. I took a "before" picture before I pulled it out, so I know where the rotor was pointing.</div>

<div class="gmail_default" style="font-size: small;">Nothing has moved, the tranny is in neutral, no power on at all. I'm assuming that this must relate to the oil pump drive not engaging. What do I do now?</div>
