<div dir="ltr">When I built my 289 - mine's a Mark 2 - I assembled it as if it were a modern L.A.T. car: modern Edelbrock manifold, modern Holley 4160 carb, mild cam, Edelbrock aluminum heads, etc.. Out of respect for the purists all the original parts sit in boxes in the garage in case a future owner wants to make it concours. The original L.A.T. cam was a solid lifter cam. I can't picture adjusting the valves on a Kitty every three months (or daily if it's being raced...) but that;s what they offered. <div><br></div><div>I s'pose the question to be asked is what's "original", and why does it matter? L.A.T. was an "option" but it wasn't "factory." Leaded gas was the norm, and it's gone. We deal with the now, and it is what it is. After all, it's our cars and we can do what we like with them.</div><div><br></div><div>If you want a 347, or a 302, have at it! wanted my Tiger's 260 to meet the originality test while meeting my power
demands.<br><br>Alas, I didn't have the savvy to make that happen.<br><br>For
cruising, a stock 260 isn't a bad choice but for performance...cubes
mater.<br><br>So my stock engine went onto a stand and was replaced with a 5
bolt 289 amended with a<br>302 rotating assembly... a 5 bolt 302 so to speak,
making an acceptable 263 RWHP and comparable torque.<br><br>Visually, few
people question the difference although the aluminum heads do spark
questions.<br><br>I remain interested in the 260 engine - especially the 245

since there is no more lead. Screw in studs are a great way to strengthen
