I was cleaning out the interior the other day and noticed I seem to missing 2 interior side coverings just under the end of the dash pad on both driver and passenger sides.? What is suppose to go here?

Pebble black with or without card board backing and what type of screws with surrounds like in trunk?

If so, get more pictures and input on original over the years.  If not,

Yeah Joel only sent it to you Jay...
Those aluminum pieces are really odd shaped.  They extend up to the cardboard piece across
the top under the lip.  Finding some off an old Alpine is best.
Cover with smooth black vinyl from a fabric store is what I would do, the pebble would be too
extreme.
I think the aluminum stops short of the basketweave but the vinyl wraps around under it.
As you can guess, the aluminum is shaped in 3 dimensions, it is made from flat sheet but you
need to bend it smoothly and trickily(!).

When I redid my interior I stripped off the original vinyl and glued on
some extra vinyl from the interior kit (from SS) to the aluminum pieces.  I
then replaced the badly worn cardboard above the dash with aluminum strips
which I also covered with the same vinyl.  Not exactly stock, but since the
vinyls all match it looks good.

Here is the Alpine Parts List diagram ? Body Fittings ? Plate C ? Section YX ? part # 171 & 172 below

2220818 & 2220819 ? I don?t know if a drawing for this part is available ? these are most likely the finished part numbers ? the aluminum part might have a supplemental part number.

 

Attached is a scan, I believe is the part

Soft aluminum - .036? thick

Black covering is about .019? thick

I see 4 additional smaller holes in the aluminum ? my guess is they align the part in the manufacturing process

Yeah Joel only sent it to you Jay... 

Those aluminum pieces are really odd shaped.  They extend up to the cardboard piece across 

the top under the lip.  Finding some off an old Alpine is best. 

Cover with smooth black vinyl from a fabric store is what I would do, the pebble would be too 

extreme. 

I think the aluminum stops short of the basketweave but the vinyl wraps around under it. 

As you can guess, the aluminum is shaped in 3 dimensions, it is made from flat sheet but you 

need to bend it smoothly and trickily(!).

2220818 & 2220819 ? I don?t know if a drawing for this part is available ? these are most likely the finished part numbers ? the aluminum part might have a supplemental part number.

Those aluminum pieces are really odd shaped.? They extend up to the cardboard piece across 

the top under the lip.? Finding some off an old Alpine is best. 

Cover with smooth black vinyl from a fabric store is what I would do, the pebble would be too 

extreme. 

I think the aluminum stops short of the basketweave but the vinyl wraps around under it. 

As you can guess, the aluminum is shaped in 3 dimensions, it is made from flat sheet but you 

need to bend it smoothly and trickily(!).

Here is a trace of what I have.

This part was flattened out so dimensions may only be close.

Soft aluminum is used so it can easily be bent into shape.

I would check the mount holes to make sure of the placement on your Tiger.

Jim,

I think they are referring to the Furflex trim edge, the fabric braided
covered metal strips that go over the seams on the door opening and also on
the hardtop and screens  A pillar

I called them and they told me they are now so busy that they only do German gauges but recommended this place that does only British gauges:https://momamanufacturing.com/
Talked to the gentleman there and he said it would take 6-8 weeks as he was really busy.? I sent it in and got a call about 3 weeks later.? In the car, looks nicely cleaned up and working fine.
FWIW.
Now on to my hood latch.? It latches, but not really.? Then after driving for a bit, it unlatches.? Often when I hit a bigger than average (maybe 1.5-2 sd above the mean) bump.
Any general strategies or tech tips?

Hello all,
My career was almost solely in the A/V industry. In the early days, I worked for a company called Advent that used a substance called bulb dye to color and seal its tweeter domes. I was wondering if anybody tried bulb dye on their red generator/alternator light. Its position means that if the car is been in the sun, it gets faded pretty quickly. Any end all other solutions would be appreciated. And I can?t seem to figure out a good source for bulb dye. As red generator/alternator plastic lenses are uncommon, I don?t want to screw this up.

 James, you can take the little chrome piece off and spin the red part 180 and it will look brand new.?? I did a lot of these for Paul Reisentz.?? While it's apart clean the chrome with some 0000 or chrome polish.?

A red Sharpie Permanent marker works great.
Also, if nobody did it before, you can rotate the plastic to the backside
which will be like brand new.

I'm reupholstering the seats this winter.  The big box from SS is due soon,
so I've been investigating taking things apart.

The side cover plates came off easy, and they're already stripped and
primed.  So the first difficult challenge is getting those large screws
out.   They won't come free with just standard screwdriver effort.  So what
have you guys done to get them out?  I've already had Liquid Wrench on them
for a few hours.

I was thinking of one of those impact tools that you hit with a hammer.
Any other ideas out there?

PB Blaster, then use a square shaft large screwdriver with an adjustable on
the screwdriver push down hard and lefty loosen. Paint the side covers with
black wrinkle paint.

I used an impact screwdriver which was terrific. My upholstery is red so I used red crinkle paint on the side panels and they look great.

Those screws are a pain.   You will probably have to use every trick you can think of to get them out.

I use ATF as a penetrating oil.

 

I believe I did use an impact tool to start them.

The problem here is that all the screws have wear points and the long screws are full length threaded.

One of my long screws also had a slight bend.

 

Use heat, use penetrating oil, use a very good screwdriver that fits well and work them slowly out and in as needed; they will turn out.

I had to buy a BSF tap to make the threads good again.

It?s been a decade since I last did seats but I remember using a Pozidrive
bit on an impact driver as the standard Phillips bits were a bit loose.
Once I got them loose I soaked each one with 50/50 acetone/atf and after an
hour they came right out.

I'm putting together an article on Tiger rear ends with a subsection devoted to "Special Axles".

My research and enquiries have not resulted in clarification as to what that designates (see attached draft).

It was important enough to note in both Volume 1 and 2 of the Jensen ledgers.




I've examined the Tiger supplement (Rootes 1965: Publication 6601131, #5042703) where no part changes were noted, but was thinking a later?issue where parts changes are noted.

I'm starting to peel the onion, pulling the driver's seat apart.  Already
there.s a mystery.  Subject?  Missing parts.  The first picture below is
the right side of the driver's seat.  There are three holes in the plate.
Wear on the lower two suggest there might have been something there in the
distant past.  The second picture is the same plate, mirror image, of
course, on the passenger seat.  One screw with a round nut are there, but
there is a clear indication that there was once a similar screw in the
lower hole.

I have the old Joe Parlanti article but there are no clear pictures of this
area.  SS specifies one round nut per seat.  So what might have been in the
lower hole?  And how is that spring mechanism supposed to work?

I'm starting to peel the onion, pulling the driver's seat apart.  Already there.s a mystery.  Subject?  Missing parts.  The first picture below is the right side of the driver's seat.  There are three holes in the plate.  Wear on the lower two suggest there might have been something there in the distant past.  The second picture is the same plate, mirror image, of course, on the passenger seat.  One screw with a round nut are there, but there is a clear indication that there was once a similar screw in the lower hole. 

 

I have the old Joe Parlanti article but there are no clear pictures of this area.  SS specifies one round nut per seat.  So what might have been in the lower hole?  And how is that spring mechanism supposed to work?

Thanks to Ron and Joe Brown for their photos, I think I know what was
missing, though I still don't know why there was evidence of a large screw
having been where there shouldn't have been one.  I know my previous owner
had the tiger plus an Alpine for parts, so maybe some parts swapping on the
seats happened too.  Sometimes you just don't know.

Tonight I pull the upholstery and foam off the seat bottom, and see what I
unearth there.  Tomorrow, we'll see if any of those screws have loosened up
enough to come out.  My new Impact tool is ready.
