The objective of getting my My 1965 Mark 1 on the road again is proceeding rapidly.   However, it is missing a fan shroud.   I vaguely remember, 53 years ago, we removed the fan shroud because the replacement water pump would not allow the shroud to be fitted to the car.   Now, of course, we have a proper water pump and we would like to refit a shroud.

I would like to purchase one.   Do any of you have one or know where I may buy one?

Nice piece, tad  ?spensive in my estimation ?..Now every Tiger had one of these, did it not? So where the heck are they? In reproductions of Tigers? In Alpines with V8 motors? Or even the 2.8L Ford engine?   And for the purists: notice that it was powder coated, tsk, tsk: isn?t the OEM version painted black? Points off at the concours, eh?

eBay before anyone was making repros.   Quite why the cars all starting
loosing them is a mystery.  My car also came without it.  I got a bare
steel repro for about half that price but it was about 15 years ago.  I

 That was Gilles AKA Tigresunbeam on the CAT forum. The newer versions are not one piece with a nice crease 1/2" forward of the curved trailing edge.?Otherwise they look the part. If you could find a bicycle guy that rolls small fenders you could fashion one or correct the repops.?

My 15s are Yokohama Advans.  I think A052.  Also have a bunch of Pirelli P7
Corsas in both dry and wet forms.

Both are mega grippy competition tyres.   I guess it depends what you do
with your tiger, what temps and conditions you drive in?.

I had some Dunlop road tyres on once in 15? and they were not bad but a bit
hard and numb.

How do you use/drive your Tiger? There are many great choices in the 195 to 205 section width range for 15's, just have to figure out what is the best fit...no pun intended. I am currently running some Federal RS (205/50-15 all around, I am not a fan of tire stagger on a stock suspension Tiger) that I was given to try out. They're a decent soft compound street tire, but I wouldn't recommend. I'll be replacing them soon and am choosing between the Bridgestone RE71RS, Yokohama A052 and the Falken RT660. But, I like max street tire grip and don't care too much about ride, noise and wear. If I was looking for a more all around solution, I'd probably be looking at the Continental Extreme Contact.?

My tires are Dunlop Direzza DZ102 205-50R15 front and back.   I chose them
mainly because they were affordable (at Sam's Club) and they had pretty
good reviews.  I don't race or autocross or even drive very fast, so these
tires are fine for me.  I might go for something narrower the next time I
buy tires.

185 13" are honestly the best for fun driving.  the car drives SO much
better on 13s.  i have 13, 15, and 16 wheels.

I'd agree, a thick sidewall tire with less grip will ride better and provide throttle induced giggles at much friendlier speeds. That can be a fun combination, for sure.

What they said.  I switched the 13 inch wheels I bought from 225/60's (came
with the wheels) to 185/70's.  Nicer ride, easier steering, Probably less
stress on the fulcrum pins, too.

Back in '94 when Tom Sakai bought his yellow tiger,

He had 15" wheels and too stiff rear springs.

Talk about Oversteer In a hurry!

13" wheels slowed down the oversteer and different springs fixed it.

I am seriously considering putting 13" wheels on my econobox

in place of the OEM 15" wheels for at least 4 reasons.

1) to be able to use up all the sticky 13s we have.

2) get wider tires.

3) get a softer ride??

4) Try out the -2 Look.

My understanding is the 13" tires? have a taller sidewall to get to a 
necessary diameter. That taller sidewall "leans" (flexes) more in the 
corner and slowly removes the contact patch with the road. Thus the 
drive can feel/hear the limit of the grip and respond accordingly. Tires 
with a shorter (stiffer) sidewall (and likely a wider tire too) though 
they may grip better up to a point..., lose that contact patch more 
abruptly. So, depending upon ones driving expectations there are 
advantages/ disadvantages to each configuration. Like most things in 
life there isn't one, better all around option. In most case there is 
always a tradeoff.

I think that is a bit of wishful thinking. I purchased the last five MKII grills Chrysler had in their warehouse in 1978 for $45 each.? Took them to TE/AE United II in Williamsburg VA. Sold three of them for $75 ea.? Few years later sold one for $400.? Finally let the last one go for $1400.? Who knows, he might get what he's asking, but I doubt it. Now maybe if he threw in a NOS upper finisher, wheel well trims, rocker mouldings and headlight rims he might get that much.Jim DSent from my Galaxy

Interesting?. The horizontal/vertical elements of my grill which are original on my MKII are crimped not welded.  OEM?.???  Perhaps it is the welds that justify the price ?

Having a Truetrac installed and everything is ready for reassembly.
The gentleman doing the work needs a 0.003" and a 0.005" shim.
Tom Hall has some 0.005s and will be sending that one.
Bill Martin has some shims but, as he is presently madly preparing two Tigers for shows in Monterey, is not sure when he will have time to check.
Any other sources out there?? Would be more than happy to end up with extra at this point.? Leaving town in about a week & a half and would like to pick up the rear end before I leave.
If not ... oh well.

Do you known anyone with a surface grinder?  I normally make shims I need

Find the local Jeep shop that works on axles. They should have Dana 44 parts out the wazoo.

As best I can tell he is asking for the shims at the outer end of the 
AXLE bearing, not the pinion or carrier shims that would be readily 
available. Given the unique hubs on the rear of the Tiger I doubt most 
4X4 or other Dana 44 shops would carry the shims. On the stock set up 
there is I believe roughly a .004 end play that the two axles and a 
short center piece in the differential need.

No comment on your charge light (orange?) issue because there are a lot of
ways to wire this (generator? Alternator? 1/2 wire?).  If everything is
wired correctly it?s probably diodes gone.

But on the fuel pump I quite like carter for high flow and not too loud.
The Holley pumps are too loud in my opinion and less reliable than carter.
If it?s a stock engine maybe a facet or even stock replacement SU style,
but the replacement style without points.  Lots of British cars use them
and they are more or less silent.  No good for >180/200hp probably though.

I guess it depends on what you consider a quiet fuel pump.

Remember the stock fuel pump is good for around 200 HP; anything more and you need more fuel flow and possibly larger fuel lines.

 

I have a Purolator cube style fuel pump mounted in the trunk for my stock engine.   I can hear it until the engine starts.

The way you isolate the mount for the fuel pump can be key to the noise level.

 

Dash Red light ? always check the wiring diagram for correct wiring connections.

Check for correct wire connections at the Voltage Regulator and at the Ignition Switch.

 

Make sure the ign. Switch is in the OFF position.

Accessories, OFF, RUN, START are the 4 positions.

 

My guess is that the White wire from the dash light is on the #1 ignition switch post with the brown wire instead of the #2 post with the White wires.

It is also possible that the ign. Switch is hung up somehow, turn the ign. Switch with the key several times with no battery power 1st.

 The holly red is definitely TOO noisy.?? I would not recommend.? Faucet

I guess it depends on what you consider a quiet fuel pump.

Remember the stock fuel pump is good for around 200 HP; anything more and you need more fuel flow and possibly larger fuel lines.

I have a Purolator cube style fuel pump mounted in the trunk for my stock engine.?? I can hear it until the engine starts.

The way you isolate the mount for the fuel pump can be key to the noise level.

Dash Red light ? always check the wiring diagram for correct wiring connections.

Check for correct wire connections at the Voltage Regulator and at the Ignition Switch.

Make sure the ign. Switch is in the OFF position.

Accessories, OFF, RUN, START are the 4 positions.

My guess is that the White wire from the dash light is on the #1 ignition switch post with the brown wire instead of the #2 post with the White wires.

It is also possible that the ign. Switch is hung up somehow, turn the ign. Switch with the key several times with no battery power 1st.
