I took the high beam switch and remounted it to the firewall (just passed the plate where it was located). I took some ?non-skid? material and covered the high beam plate with it. It has acted as a dead pedal for the past 20 years and was a simple fix. Probably the best thing I have done for the drivability of the Tiger. And BTW I have never missed the high beam switch when punching it with my left foot. As you can see in the photos, one of the large tubes has separated from the frame at the front end, and is bent inward an inch or so. And there are now some serious cracks in the tube that this tube is welded to in the back. Rather than an impact, I'm wondering if someone of significant weight tried standing on the seat, and a weak weld on the tube surrendered. Has anyone else ever seen a failure like this? Possibly the previous owner was thinking like you ? attach linkage to the welded tab to stop slippage but never finished the job. The throttle is slipping due to wear on the shaft so you have 2 other chooses. 1 try to increase the diameter of the shaft at the linkage 2 take the linkage off the shaft and cut the slot bigger so the bolt will clamp it down harder. Ron Fraser From: Tigers On Behalf Of Joe Brown Sent: Monday, April 10, 2023 4:59 PM To: tigers at autox.team.net Subject: [Tigers] Throttle Linkage I started having some issues with my throttle and figured out that the linkage attached to the gas pedal was slipping. There is a bolt that pinches the throttle cable lever onto the rod coming from the pedal. I tightened it down as far as it would go and it still slips. In the photo below the bolt is removed. I was looking at this linkage in my parts manual and it doesn't show the welded on tab that mine has. See the red arrow in the photo. Maybe a later edition of the manual shows this. I'm not sure what that tab would be for. Any ideas? I think my only fix will be to try and attach the lever to the welded tab so that it won't slip on the rod any more. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks, Joe Brown -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The Tiger shop manual (online at tigersunited.com) has a really good cross section view of how the steering column and hub parts go together. I would also look at if the horn ring wiper is making contact to the ring that mounts on the steering shaft. Theo > On Apr 19, 2023, at 7:35 PM, JAMES ARMSTRONG via Tigers wrote: > > ?Hello. Grounding the wire that goes to the steering column should make the horn blow. In their infinite wisdom, Rootes connected one side of the horn(s) to the + side of the battery, forgoing the requirement for a horn relay. When the horn ring grounds the other side of the horn, current flows through the horn and it blows. The problem with this scheme is that full horn current flows through the horn ring and the ring may become pitted from arcing. If you are doing some work on your horn circuit you might want to install a conventional horn relay so the horn ring only has to pass the relay-energizing current instead of the full horn current. My horn was never reliable from birth and I was never able to adjust it so I could rely on it, Disassembling the horn ring assembly showed that the ring was pitted in many places, and cleaning it did little good. I have recently installed a horn relay and it now works reliably.
