According to TBON there were 2 Hillman and Sunbeam dealers a Service Dealer and a Singer dealer in Atlanta

Import Motors Ltd

Lander Auto Parts Inc.

Buckhead Foreign Car Center Inc. – Service Dealer

Southeastern Sports Car Center Inc. – Singer Dealer

West coast executive offices

LA and San Francisco

East coast offices

Long Island City and New York City

I believe most of the MK IIs had to be shipped to Canada for some technicality. (?)

Thanks for this very interesting commentary.

I’ve always wondered how Sunbeam distribution across the country took place. My Mk1a is

An Oklahoma car for example.

Here in Atlanta there were only a few Tigers on the streets in the 60’s. I don’t know if there

Was a dealership or not. Used Tigers and Alpines were sold out of the Atlanta newspaper’s classified

ads for “British cars.”

That’s where I found my first Tiger, a Midnight Blue Mk1.

I recall reading about MkII’s but seeing just one. I’ve come to appreciate MkII styling

But back in the day the absence of side “stripe” left me skeptical.

For sure they came into the port at LA(Long Beach?).

The 80% (I think) is just a number out of his A$$...

He was back east or Canada, he didn't get one new, just many years later (I think).

The hot rod scene was California and the weather definetly favors a convertible.

But he was right, most came to the west coast due to demand. That is why you

see more MK2s back east, by the time they came out, everyone in the west already

had a MK1 with a 289 (info from the late Paul Reisentz).

I don't have definitive information, but the cars could have been all delivered to east coast ports, then transported from there. Where they would have been sold was just a function of where the dealers in the network were located.

All,

I was reviewing a well researched 1995 article What is a Sunbeam Tiger? listed on the STOA website by Von Levandowski from Cobra Magazine.

In it, he states "While about 80% of the original Tiger sales were located on the west coast, ownership opportunities now exist nationwide."

While I knew the majority of Tigers were delivered to California, I had never heard it quantified.

Our Tiger research has always lacked data on delivery ports and retail outlet distribution.

Does anyone know from where this 80% figure was obtained?

Does anyone have additional or contradictory information/documentation on ports of entry and retail distribution?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

B
