I thought Tigers were sent to the dealers who ordered them. For instance, in little old Vermont there were very few dealers who sold foreign cars. Yankees wanted US steel. But, I believe there were at least 2 Sunbeam dealers. The larger one was in a city of 35,000 people. The 2nd was in a town of about 2,000. Needless to say these places sold very few Sunbeams. But, I know that the larger dealer did sell a few. If these dealers weren't ordering Tigers, they wouldn't be shipping them to Vermont (or any other location that didn't have buyers). Apparently Calif. had buyers.

For sure they came into the port at LA(Long Beach?). The 80% (I think) is just a number out of his A$$... He was back east or Canada, he didn't get one new, just many years later (I think). The hot rod scene was California and the weather definetly favors a convertible. But he was right, most came to the west coast due to demand. That is why you see more MK2s back east, by the time they came out, everyone in the west already had a MK1 with a 289 (info from the late Paul Reisentz). Gary

Where they would have been sold was just a function of where the dealers in the network were located. Subject: [Tigers] Original Tiger Port of Entry and Sales Information All,I was reviewing a well researched 1995 article What is a Sunbeam Tiger? listed on the STOA website by Von Levandowski from Cobra Magazine. In it, he states "While about 80% of the original Tiger sales were located on the west coast, ownership opportunities now exist nationwide."While I knew the majority of Tigers were delivered to California, I had never heard it quantified. Our Tiger research has always lacked data on delivery ports and retail outlet distribution. Does anyone know from where this 80% figure was obtained?Does anyone have additional or contradictory information/documentation on ports of entry and retail distribution? Thanks in advance.CheersB Brian Glenn
