I was planning on pulling my engine and needed a stand for it.? I prefer to buy rather than make if the price is right, and this stand from Speedway Motors is certainly cheap enough at $45.? I also bought the caster wheel kit for another $50.? I"m happy to say that it can hold both the engine and transmission.? It rolls smoothly and easily, and did not become unbalanced when I removed the transmission.? Another plus is that I did not have to remove the starter to pull the engine.? However, there isn't enough room for more than a few inches of the exhaust header pipes so these will have to be cut back if you cannot remove them. Top pic is from the Speedway website, and the bottom pic is of my engine.- Randy Antosiak -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Please include any manufacturer and part number when you find good workable parts for any area on the Tiger. We also need to know possible bad part numbers too. We all need that kind of information on hand for future reference. I still recommend a coolant recovery system to everyone then you know exactly when and how much coolant is moving back and forth through the system. Make it a simple setup that can easily be removed if judging is your priority. Personally, I prefer not to pollute the ground with coolant of any kind and I really don?t want coolant possibly spraying onto my tire while driving or stopping. Since it was a permanent change of station I had the hardtop on. While it never boiled over the temp gage lived over 210 degrees. While in Long Beach I took the coolant overflow/recovery tank from my 1977 Ford LTD wagon and mounted It under the the left front fender behaving the headlight using plumbers mounting straps. It is still there today and working. I judge ?working? by comparing the hot running tank level to the cooled off level. No originality or tech inspector has ever mentioned it. Adding water to the tank is difficult since access to the original cap was OBE. Since then I have, first had an original radiator recored with core packs from fork trucks. That worked but still needed help. Then currently I have a Griffin aluminum radiator. Problem solved. 90 mph on a 90 degree F day no problem. Stop and go idling in at 2 hour parade still good. I'm concerned that the plastic washer bottle in its current location up against the engine might suffer from the heat. As simple as this process sounds, it turned into a great adventure for me. I won't relate all the details of the adventure but there was a question that arose that I hope someone can answer for me. The shop manual contains a drawing that shows the correct routing for the plug wires. On each side of the engine the wires go through a couple of wire guides that provide the correct spacing and routing for the wires. On the right side the wires are routed in the order 1-2-3-4. On the left side the order is 7-5-6-8. The text in the manual explains that the reason for this order is to provide separation between the number 7 and 8 wires. Seven and 8 are adjacent in the firing order and routing their wires in close parallel as they would be if the routing order were the expected 5-6-7-8, might lead to induced current between 7 and 8 resulting in misfire. I routed my wires according to the advice of the shop manual. My question is, was the original (factory) order 7-5-6-8 or was it 5-6-7-8? Please remember- if you updated your camshaft to the modern era firing order this results in a different firing sequence. It also results in the original plug wire lengths to the distributor cap different and the lengths will not be optimum. When I restored my Griffith with the 347 striker, I went to Taylor Vertex and bought a set of high temp wires and specified 12 extra inches on all whites. I had them install the spark plug bolts and I custom fit the other end while making sure the wires were optimally routed. Then I terminated the wires myself at the distributor cap. Hi mayf I?ve used intercity (https://intercitylines.com/) on a move from Kansas to Pennsylvania. They were professional, offered a short lead time, and their equipment was top notch and enclosed. They will give you a pretty quick quote if you contact them. It Also is cheaper if the car is in drivable condition. Just used them once , but was a favorable experience so usual disclaimers apply! It has held up well out in the weather in cross country and local driving and if curious it can be seen at the upcoming SUNI meeting in Independence, Mo. However I?ve come to feel it?s shinier than my preference for a stock, ?factory look.? So ... just sayin that single stage paint is something to consider. I?ll definitely look into it should the car ever get a respray. It?s not widely available but it *is* available. Ditzler # 12633 The problem is that these old paint codes do not correspond or translate well into the new paint codes of today. 1st you need to see about getting the color match paint code you want for your car. If someone here has the current paint code for #58, pass it along. Any Automotive paint shop should be able to mix the paint in single stage or base coat/ clear coat. Single stage or BC/CC will most likely be determined by the painter?s preference. Water base paints are sold to Professional Spray Paint Shops only as far as I know. I have asked about water base paints and they would not sell them to me. You really need a paint booth with correct equipment to spray, dry and cure water base paint.
