Removed the distributer and removed valve covers for a little more room to reach rear two manifold bolts. No issues but a Tiger friend gave me great advice for the install-get 4 guide bolts with no heads on them. Thread into the front two intake bolt holes and put two in the middle of the intake manifold bolt holes. This will let you align and place the intake with no problems or gasket movement. Also don't use the two thin cork gaskets at each end-a healthy bead of RTV sealent does the trick! Have fun. Eric 1. Is it possible to change the intake manifold with the engine in the Tiger? This was the stock 2bbl intake ? I did not remove the distributor or any valve covers. Make some guide pins, as Eric mentioned, so you can easily drop the intake straight down and located then bolt it down. I've ALWAYS used LMA. Never varied. I even tried the most expensive, named brand switches. They all ultimately failed. So I made my own bracket and bought a mechanical switch at Pep Boys. Works like a charm, every time, all the time. I will say though that rather than cut into the wires, I just extended the stock wires from the stock switch back into the car at my mechanical switch. _______________________________________________ tigers at autox.team.net Donate: http://www.team.net/donate.html Archive: http://www.team.net/pipermail/tigers http://autox.team.net/archive Unsubscribe: http://autox.team.net/mailman/options/tigers/fast427 at sbcglobal.net -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... You don't have to extend the wires.?? You don't need to cut any wires. The rear wiring harness passes just to the left of the pedals. Un-plug the Green/Purple connection.? Figure out which side goes to the back on the car, this is the stop lamp positive side (the other side is grounded at the stoplamp. Make a 6inch wire with a spade on one side to plug onto the new switch. Put a bullet connector on the other side, plug it into the Green/Purple going to the stoplamp. Make another shorter wire with spade on one side, plug into new switch. Put a bullet on the other side and plug into the Purple/White (or Purple) wires dangling from the harness (according to the schematic these are for the interior light that non-GT Tigers do not have).? You need to find the one with 12V always on it. Gary On 7/10/2020 9:01 AM, Jay Laifman via Tigers wrote: > I went through way too many of the switches.? I've ALWAYS used LMA.? > Never varied.? Message-ID: <000c01d656ec$c09eee00$41dcca00$@comcast.net> Listers - I've been troubleshooting what I thought was a hot-running motor. It's mid-summer in the mid-Atlantic, and I have a triple-black Tiger, so not the ideal scenario to run cool. The car's been running between 210 and 220 at 50 mph on level roads. It doesn't get a lot of miles, so I thought the radiator might need a flush. I changed the thermostat (180deg) at the same time. Same temps. I pulled out an infrared thermometer and with the car idling, the temp gauge was indicating ~ 215 while the infrared thermometer was reading 183 when pointed at the water outlet and F4B manifold. I ordered a new temp sending unit from Rick - any other suggestions? It?s always seemed to run a LITTLE hot (over 200 at stoplights), but this seems like a step increase after it had been sitting. I should add that the fuel gauge seems to be working fine, so probably not a voltage stabilizer problem. The sensor is screwed into the aluminum intake manifold and it feeds an under-dash Stewart-Warner gauge. Mine read consistently 200 to 210 which had me concerned because I had a 180 thermostat. I then bought? an infrared thermometer and measured at the upper radiator hose; it read about 185 as I recall. I thought about it and I THINK- but did not try to prove- that the engine heat conducted well from the cylinder heads onto the aluminum intake and thus probably raised the sensed temperature. I did an experiment where I painted a spot on a copper hot water pipe black. With the water flowing there was a noticeable difference between the temperature of the black spot, and the shiny copper pipe about an inch away, with the copper reading being lower. So if you are comparing temperatures, be sure both spots are black, or at least the same color. Also, despite the red dot one of my IR thermometers projects, the field of view of the IR sensor appears to be actually much wider. Of course, mine were rather cheap($xx), compared to a pricey narrow angle Omega piece ($xxx). Stu On Fri, Jul 10, 2020 at 5:31 PM wrote: > > > Thanks to Ron and others for the recommendations. How long is it? Haven't measured my jack so don't know the length. Was waiting for someone to tell us exactly what length to measure. My guess is that the "length" is the length of the body of the jack excluding the fitting on the top and the foot. Had the opportunity to use my jack not long ago - blowout, was doing about 75 on the interstate, very exciting; want to see pictures? Anyhow the jack performed beautifully and I even had air in the spare. Who would figure? Tires were around 10 years old, getting a bit long in the tooth, but the problem was clearly a very large road hazard. See pictures attached. Was probably a good thing - used this as an incentive to finish restoring 6" wheels for the rears. Car now has new 185X70s on 5" wheels on the front and 205X60s on 6"wheels on the rear. Further, was time to refinish my vintage Minilites. At $ 200 each I could have bought Asian knock-offs but they came out fabulous, better than I could have hoped. I contacted Tire Rack and had a set of Vredestine Sprint Classic 185-70-13s. and had them shipped directly to the rim refinisher (Rim Pro in MA) for mounting & balancing. I can say that the tires, with fresh shocks (thanks Rick!) t?transformed the car. I'm not?a racer or an autocrosser, just a street cruiser who likes to?boot it once in a while. And their pretty good in the wet! I recommend this tire highly. Hope this helps!? .
