It really depends on the competition in the concours world.  When the cars
get so good that differences become more minor, it has to count.

One interesting story is that the Porsche concours world got so detailed
oriented, down to every nut and washer, that the Pebble Beach concours
kicked out Porsche because the other cars couldn't compete.

And another interesting story.  I watched at TV documentary on Corvette
restoration.  Similar situation where the competition is so keen, the
winners had to go even further.  This restorer was showing that the paint
on Corvettes air conditioning brackets would peel almost immediately.  He
"perfected" that peel!  He also showed that Chevy would not buff out the
paint until after the bumpers were on.  So the paint under the bumpers had
more orange peel. He perfected that as well.
