In addition to 2 Tigers, my other job is that of being the editor of the world-wide Austin-Healey Magazine. You were all very helpful. Per Rick?s suggestion I ordered one from Pilkington in Columbus, OH $285 plus $75 shipping. (They have clear or green tint, same price. I got clear.) I see British Victoria also has them but I?m good now. I decided that rather than do it myself I?ll have my local Brit car repair shop, Sportscar Craftsmen do it in Denver. I don't see any way to restore that and I don't see any reproductions out there. So I started looking for a clock to fill the hole. Most of the gauge companies only have clocks for 2-1/16" holes. Speedhut has a pretty good looking clock that is 2-5/8" (just a little bigger than the original hole) and the price is good at $79.95 . [image: image.png] The Smiths website shows best match to the original Tiger clock in the right size and it is listed as being for the Aston Martin DB5. For about 500 bucks. I purchased it in Pilot Point , Texas and picked it up there. In 2011. I removed the intake manifold and heads to verify. Yes, Hecho en Mexico and with the S side lump on the front of the block. I checked today that it rotated, with no noise, with a wrench. I checked to see if it had been bored before and the cylinders are as left the manufacturing plant at nominal 4.000 inch give or take a smidge. There is a very very small ridge as normal of small small block with miles. Certainly to me it could be ridge removed and honed and it would work . I have not even removed the oil pan, lol, oil filter or water pump or other than the intake and heads. I am ready to release back into the wilds. If you need a Mex block for a project make me an offer and drop in and pick it up. If you need confirmation ask me for photos of the cast hecho in mexico in the lifter valley and lump on the block. You will need to pick it up with your transport carriage of some sort. I can load it into your pickup with my engine stand. Heads tossed in free of charge as well as intake if I can find it. Make me a reasonable offer. No give away but reasonable. Would make a strong basis for a stroker engine for you LSR or Tiger project. mayf _________________________ drmayf Worlds Fastest Sunbeam, period. 204.913 mph flying mile average speed 210.779 mph exit (not top) speed -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I went back to my Rootes Group hole cover and figured out how to restore the faded letters. On the back of the badge you can see that the letters are raised. I gently scraped off the remaining silver paint with a razor blade and some fine sandpaper. This left the letters transparent. At this point I suppose you could rig up a couple of LEDs and have the letters backlit at night. But I painted over the letters with some silver paint and it looks original now. From: Larry Mayfield [mailto:drmayf at mayfco.com] Sent: Monday, July 15, 2019 11:20 AM To: Tiger List (tigers at autox.team.net) Subject: Mexican Block Info updae I have additional information on the block. Stamped on the driver's side deck pad, where the date code goes is "0K2" Stamped on the seal area at the rear of the lifter valley above the bel housing attach is what appears to be the Vin or engine number "F178256" Cast into the block is "D1ZM-6015-AA" and below that is "2-0K" which is backwards of the stamped number. I understand that the rods are different from normal Ford 302 engines as well as are the main caps. Main caps in photos I have seen appear to be cast steel not cast iron. True? I verified that the head bolt holes are blind and thus much stronger than normal 302. If you are interested in photos send request and I will send directly to you. I have not removed the pan. I have the heads and head bolts plus the intake manifold should you desire those as included with a purchase price. I don't want them, lol. Pushrods as well. Best if sold to NV, Arizona or SoCal area. Make me an offer soon as I will post on LSR FB page maybe in a day or two. Prefer for it to go to a Tiger family for a very strong foundation to a super street motor. But, I want it gone. Make me an reasonable offer. Contact me then come and get it. Engine stand not included, lol. mayf _________________________ drmayf Worlds Fastest Sunbeam, period. 204.913 mph flying mile average speed 210.779 mph exit (not top) speed One upon a time I acquired a complete Ford "Mexican" 302 motor. When my Tach was working poorly I took it apart to see if there was anything obvious causing the problem. I found that the rosin on all the solder points was flacking off and stopping the working parts. I brushed off all the rosin and very gently blew out all the rosin ? use very low air pressure here like 1 or 2 psi. Tom Hall has an add on board that might help you. I?m not sure if can restore a totally dead Tach. I have Pertronics ignition and the stock Tach. Seems to me originally this setup caused the Tach to jump around some. I believe Pertronics has a filter which stops this. At the time I was discussing this with Tiger Tom in PA. He investigated this and made his own filter which I installed and the Tach worked correctly. Drive it around for the next week to get use to how it drives and sounds; also make sure all the systems are working properly. I don?t think there is much to breaking in a new car these days or anything to worry about for that trip. You might want to check to see what the drive cycle is for the computer of that vehicle. When a Check engine light comes ON and the codes are cleared there is a drive cycle required for the computer to check all the sensors and monitors be happy. I know on some GM vehicles that drive cycle can be around 100 miles, yours could be different but you may want to get around 200 miles on the vehicle before taking that trip. There should not be a problem with this new of a vehicle but I think knowing the drive cycle is a good thing to know with any computer controlled vehicle these days. Have a safe and happy trip. I went easy (as much as I could) for the first 1000 km. I did change the oil and filter at 4000 km intervals for the first three or four. Nowadays it sees full throttle and 4000+ RPM several times a day... I'm sure that there are a few people on my commute route that are unhappy with Ford's exhaust bark tuning on that car. The RS came with the 5W50 synthetic oil spec (shared only with the Ford GT and the Mustang, in North America). If anyone pulled that oil from the crankcase and put in anything else they had better hope to never have a warranty claim related to lubrication. We started by centering the windshield as best we could judge, then started at the top center to lift the gasket over the lip, working our way across the top and down the sides. While restoring a1968 MGB-GT it took three windshields from VB to get one to fit. Earlier while restoring a1963 MG the first gas tank sending unit leaked on the floor of my garage. Back to VB for a replacement. In two days the sending unit was again leaking. I told my guys to screw VB and get one from Moss. VB made in China, Moss made in UK. No problems with the Moss sending unit years later. Alas VB is in my home town. Still, if there is an option it is always Moss. Bottom to top? And a trial fitting of some of the SS trim makes it look like that's going to be a lot of fun, too. I am not necessarily a fan of VB but I don?t blame them for my cracked windshield. I bought 2 on a really cheap close out sale back in the ?90s. They were VERY well packed as someone pointed out recently. Gary Sent from my iPhone > On Jul 22, 2019, at 4:46 PM, Armacost, Don Jr. wrote: > > I think I told this story earlier but just in case. > > > > Don Armacost Jr > President -CEO > Peterson Manufacturing Co. > 816-765-2000 > drarmacost at pmlights.com > > > On Jul 22, 2019, at 6:04 PM, Jay Laifman via Tigers wrote: > >> FWIW, my story of earlier today was for a windshield from Victoria British. And I ran into a problem right off the bat. The roll is a band of @ 1/8" x 2" flexible "hard" plastic; the clips are spring steel with 2 @ 3/16" mounting holes that mount thru @ 3/16" holes in the band by way of 2 "split" nails @ 1/8" in diameter. The band is padded, and covered in vinyl. The problem is I can't find a source for the nails, and my attempt at using steel 1/8" rivets failed. I have the clips thanks to Rick at SS; There's no apparent source for the nails on the internet. Nothing found in the Tiger parts catalog. So... Does anyone know where to get the nails?
