The way to confirm this problem is a voltage drop test on the ground circuits, a pull on a wire is no reAl test..burnt or melted grounds is caused from high resistance somewhere, voltAge drop test of circuits will find the problem

You had mentioned that you have a one-wire alt. Did you replace the original wire or use the old one when you made the switch to one wire. If so, how big is the wire that cooked. Should be at least 10 ga.
