[Tigers] Headliner Installation

I'm finally getting around to restoring a hardtop I bought over 10 years
ago. The replacement headliner I received has some dimensional differences
from the stock one, so I'm curious to hear of someone else's experience.
Specifically, the reverse side of the headliner comes with the canvas
"sleeves" to hold the support bows. On the stock headliner I removed, the
canvas sleeves for the bows are all about 36" long, which allowed the tips
of each bow to extend beyond their sleeves. (Yes, I know it's important to
keep the bows in order, front to back). On the new headliner, the bow
sleeves are between 39 and 41 inches, which leaves the tips of the bows
buried in their sleeves. "Scrunching" the sleeve material toward the center
to expose the bow tips so they can be inserted into their respective holes
in the hardtop also scrunches the headliner, causing wrinkles from the
excess material.
Does anyone recall having to trim/shorten the canvas bow sleeves on the back
side of their new headliner? Any other tips for installing the headliner?
My strategy was to use a light pencil to trace the original headliner
perimeter onto the replacement headliner as a starting point and adjust from
there, but the longer sleeves are really throwing things off.
Note, it appears the manufacturer drew a centerline on the back of the
headliner. On one bow, the 39" sleeve is sewn noticeably off-center (20.5"
left, and 18.5" right), so perhaps the sleeve lengths are not meant to be
precise for the Tiger top and are intended to be cut for the desired length
or application.
Thanks as always,
