Joe
I’m not sure how the cork is held in or how that comes apart.
Try a thin blade under the cork to see if it will move, maybe there is enough room if loose to pull it out of there.
Yes, I used 4 screws and 4 washer to hold that part to a new cap.

Subject: [Tigers] Gas Cap Questions
Hi,
I'm replacing my gas cap with a new one from Sunbeam Specialties and I see that I have to move over a little spring that goes under the push-button and the larger spring loaded metal piece with a cork washer that seals against the filler neck. So I am looking for ideas about replacing that cork gasket. It doesn't look like I can take the metal piece apart, so do I just take a razor and cut away the cork and cut a new piece of cork to fit? Also, this spring loaded metal piece was held in to the cap with four rivets. Should I just use self-tapping screws on the new cap?
Thanks,
Joe Brown
