Some info on the GM Alternator:

FYI

--The first generation GM Alt with a built in regulator was switched to
Metric, I think in the mid '80s

A pain in the butt!

--The typical one you find these days would be 60+ amp.

--The amp rating is usually at an RPM above idle.

--It's very easy to wire in the dash light and use the NON-one wire Std
one.

The bonus is the light tells you if there is a problem ....Gee did I just
loose the Belt?, ....Or??

--The back main case housing can be clocked in 1/4 turn positions,
typically as a Dash number ( -3, -6,-9,-12) in the part number from an
auto parts store.

--There is a regulator bypass test "port" in the back housing.

It is a "D" shaped hole with a tab just inside, when the tab is shorted
to the case, the Alt goes into a FULL charge TEST mode.
