I just looked in my 2017 Mac’s - Falcon catalog

1965 -70 100 amp alternator 41-73978-1 $169.99 1 wire hook up

You would need to check out that alternator for more details and determine if it would work for you.

Ron/Gary

I agree with the 'ugly' factor and have been trying hard to keep a stock configuration/look but functionality has now taken hold. And taping up new wire harness does not appeal to me so 'dummy' up the VR.

Narrowing down the alternator has been tough. Do I need a 'small case' alternator in order to fit? What is the opinion regarding MIN amps at idle to run lights/defrost blower/wipers/MSD box. My calculation was around 70 if I were to add a radio so could get by with less.

HEI Ignition: 12 amps

Head Lights/tail lights - 10 amps

Halogen bulbs - 10 amps each - so 20 on head lights

Electric fuel pump - Holly Red - 2 amp reporting but saying at least 5 amps

47 amps plus room to grow if add electric cooling fan or radio, so about 70 best guess at idle.

Bean dip or on the right track? Still have not narrowed down Alternator size that 'might' fit the CAT alt bracket $119 + $35 membership fee.

I originally made the Dummy VR to clean up the wire harness at that point. The article I read before I started removed the VR then bolted, taped and shrink wrapped the wire harness. I thought that sounded too ugly.

I just went to Summit Racing, they have just what you want, and in chrome no less.
I hung it with a CAT club bracket, rough copy of the MK2 bracket in aluminum.
I ran the one wire to the battery terminal on the solenoid. The largest gauge wire at the auto parts store is really not large enough for 70amps, so I doubled up two strands. I also put a 70amp fuse in line but that broke..need to fix that...
Don't know why you want a dummy VR? Just remove it. I forget what I did with the wires.. I'll look when I have a chance..
