[Tigers] Anyone built a 4 link rear suspension for their tiger?

I didn't have much time tonight but crawled under the car for 10 min with a tape measure.  Unloaded the axle needs to move up from where it is 3.5-4" to set a level ride height.  and this could leave about 4" of suspension travel.


Yes, agreed, parallel is important and from a brief study and also scale of lower length to upper length at 70-75% of lower.  I don't think I would go this route if I couldn't get it parallel and upper at right scale.  At first inspection it looks like there is room.  I'm considering the triangulated 4 link  with the uppers at 45 deg to eliminate need for a Panhard rod.

By the eyeball in moving up the rear end the lower link needs to be 21.5".  If can't be made parallel then could put in brackets to move lower frame mount about 1" in below the frame (at the level where the weld on traction master rod attachment was).   The upper 45 attaches at the pocket to the frame side.  Approximate measure is 21.5 for the lower and would need 15" laterally, at 45 deg it would be about 21" long.  I think it can be done....

will spend some solid time this weekend trying to sort this out

Hmmm, a comment maybe on terminology.  Where I came from, a 4 link set up had brackets where the rod ends couple be alternatively placed to change things like the roll centers, and so forth. The bars were  not parallel at all and indeed the 4 link on my LSR car has the bars at an angle to each other, but in a line going forward. A 4 bar set up is a parallel system where there is only one way to connect the bars and they form a parallel system of linkages. And either case may have the upper links in a triangular manner. I have seen them such that the upper link is a single link connecting to either the chassis forward of the diff or vice versa the single link connecting to the  diff with the two other legs attached to the forward chassis points.



Nothing of what anyone has said is wrong, just I am old and dumb and need some guidance on what exactly is being mentioned and to hopefully have us all on the same page.  The MG set up is to me a 4 bar system with only one set of bracket holes to attach the links.  Looks good but no way to change the characteristics of the suspension system other than changing the pinion angle by lengthening the upper or lower bars lengths.



If anyone is in doubt then take a look at say art Morrison catalog and see the different kinds of set ups.



And the suspensions with the angled pair of links to the center or outbound ie not parallel with the other pair of links is a good way to get articulation and also to eliminate the need for a Panhard (and it ain’t Pan Hard) bar, watts linkage, or diagonal bar to locate the rear end laterally.

Based on Theo's reply I got completely distracted this afternoon.   I hadn't given the 4 link any thought.  But with where the car is and that I'm ordering a custom rear end maybe this isn't all that complicated.  Have others done this?
