[Tigers] Hard Top Padding - Replace or not?

Thanks, Cliff. Good tip. Makes sense that by insulating the interior from the sun’s heat, you’re effectively trapping it against the painted metal – especially metal that’s been painted black.

When I restored my Tiger, I was told not to put Dynamat under metal that was dierectly exposed to the sun since it ruined the paint. Don't know if this is true but thought I'd pass it along. Cliff

Your last words answer it for me. If yours is still stuck up there, leave it alone! No way we can get that kind of quality glue anymore.
If it is already off, I'd be worried about just about any current glue's ability to hold up whatever you put on there. Maybe some people have had luck with some sort of adhesive that can comment otherwise. At a minimum, it will probably required stripping the underside down to bare metal.

I'm in the process of restoring a hard top. I have removed the headliner
and padding to have the top repainted. The original rectangular padding
appears to be in good shape for 50 yr old organic material. I'm debating
replacing the original padding with a modern sound deadening/insulating
material (e.g. Dynamat). In general, I try to put things back they way they
were, but it's underneath the headliner where it'll never be seen.
For those who have been here before me, what did you decide and why? If I
reinstall the original, any adhesive recommendations?
Thanks much,
