[Tigers] Intake coolant

Coolant is run through the stock intake. What is the purpose of the  
coolant running through? Thought I had heard that it was to help warm the  intake 
in cooler weather.  Down south I am hearing it's to help cool  the intake. 
So, what is the exact purpose?  I have an aftermarket  intake on the Tiger 
with no coolant passages and don't see any  difference.
