I have the same set-up; T5 and 3.55 posi. in my 65 comet with a 347 and 3x2s  First is a little short  but it is a great highway cruiser

Having installed Tom halls t5 conversion in my car I don't know why you would mess with a worn top loader.. I saved mine and rebuilt it for someone down the road who has to have original..I drive my car that has 3:55 LS rear and it a real pleasure to drive. On the highway or back roads. Iwould never go back. 1st gear is a little short, but  That's the only down side, for me, after all it's a car, they all have comprises, Clyde
