[Tigers] Mk2 values

JIm, I think your comments are right on target.

Cullen, if you're in no hurry, give it another couple/few months. He'll come off the 80 price (way off), if he wants to sell. I just don't see any catalyst for prices to rebound over the next few quarters, personally.

You might point out to the seller the MKII currently for sale on the CAT forum. Seller is asking $150k. I have seen that car and it is among the best...a multiple award winner at east coast Sunbeam events.

The 200k+ cars (only 2 that I recall) sold 2 years ago and I have not seen any reach that price since.

The non-running rust bucket I mentioned went for 45k last year and Hagerty has condition 4 cars near 70. So I would figure some where in between.

If seller will not budge, I would move on if it were me...just sayin'

Thank you all who contributed to my question about MKII values. I have used the Hagerty Valuation tool many times, but I couple that knowledge with personal experiences.

I am aware of a Tiger Mk II "for sale" that I'm trying negotiate the possible sale of. Admittedly I was hoping to do so without opening up the floodgates of other competition, hence my lack of detail.

He's asking 80 grand for a non driving car, with many critical MKII pieces that have not yet been confirmed. He may have them but I haven't seen them. The car does start, but does not drive. It also is packed in a garage with stuff all around it, obstructing some of its inspection, but its very clearly a MKII. It is recorded in TBON. No visible rust but may have some body filler, amount unknown. Communication is poor with the seller and his expectations are unreasonable. He quotes a 240K sale on a MKII and is confident his car is worth 70-80 grand. I didn't think it is. I know of a couple driver quality MKII's that recently sold for less than 100k. Frustrating situation. He has no inspiration to build the car, only to get rich off of it. If the deal was right, I could possibly buy the car but I have no desire to overpay. I think the car is maybe "worth" 45 or 50 but he would just laugh. I have offered him 30 without confirmation of the grill, top of grill trim and wheel arches, and he didn't even respond to my offer.

Thank you so much for understanding and thank you for helping with discussion on values. Just trying to make sure I am representing my case realistically to the potential seller. My patience for negotiation is running out. I've been lightly pursuing the car since early 2013.

Thank you all!

Cullen

Hi Cullen -

As a starting point to determine the value of your car, you can go to the Hagerty web site and look it up. This site can give you a ball park number:

Cars in #4 condition are daily drivers, and Hagerty gives the Mk 2 a value of $67,500 in this condition.

Since you wrote your car is a basketcase and doesn't drive, it will be worth less. However, as long as you have all the rare parts (wheel arch trim, rocker trim, grill, eyebrow, tach), then I would guess a rock bottom value around $55k -60k.

Dear friends. I would like the list opinion on Mark 2 Tiger values these days. We have all seen several come and go at auction in restored condition. I realize this question is so subjective it's nearly impossible to answer.

At least give me a Range. Assuming the following conditions are true:

Authentic mk2 tiger.
No visible rust or collision damage.
Matching engine, trans and rear end
Complete car with egg crate grill and wheel arch trim
 Hardtop included.
 Runs but does not drive.
Complete but needs total restoration. Basketcase.
Been in same family for 30 years.

What's the least a person would expect to pay?
 What the most?

Thanks friends!!

Cullen
