Check that your daisy-chain wires are not disconnected somewhere. If they do become disconnected, then your instruments will ground through the light bulbs, and all will appear to work until you turn on the panel lights.

Water temp and fuel gauges are off the voltage regulator. The tach power is not. So its likely that there is a 12V or panel ground issue somewhere,

My 1966 Tiger Water, fuel and tack gages quit working a few seconds after startup. I checked the ground and it seems to be ok. Do you think that maybe the voltage stabilizer is going?
