Joel:
I'm at work right now and do not have access to my copy of TBON, but I seem to recall that the MkIIs had stock steel wheels that were painted a silver color on both sides, while the Mk1 and Mk1A wheels were painted black on the inside of the wheel and white on the outside. If I'm not mistaken, I believe the correct color ID for the outside wheel color was "Seafoam Gray," or something like that. I contacted Tower Paint in Appleton, WI, years ago and gave them the afore-mentioned name of the correct Rootes color and they were able to mix me several cans of it to spray my wheels with.
Jay was correct in his description of the spray method. The wheels were evidently painted black and then the "Seafoam Gray" was applied to the outside surface of the wheel with no effort by the factory to mask off the inside surface. It is proper to have a little overspray come through and land on the black surface of the inside of the wheel, so don't worry about that.
Hope this helps,
Andy

Dunlop 590 x 13” RS5 with a 1” white sidewall orGoodyear “Made in England 600 x 13” Roadway Speed with a 1”white sidewall Wheel – standard steel 4-1/2” x 13” rimPainted black – Is this gloss black or another black, semi, satin, flat? Then re-sprayed a gray-white on the front – what does thismean? The entire front of the wheel/rimor just a portion? Any rattle can paintcan number anyone could provide? I would like to find a current tire replacement ‘size’,165x80x13 as an example of what matches the 590x13” or 600x13”designation. What does 590 or 600x13translate to? Does anyone have a picture of what the wheel and tire shouldbe from the front with the 1” white sidewall and this ‘gray-white on the front’is suppose to look like that they would share? I have some LAT wheels with the markings on the inside of“SRC 1300, 5.5 X 1300, patent pending, ?celes cali?” As measured from the inside of the lip, they are 5.5” wide. The steel wheel, chrome ring and cap that I have is 4.5”wide from the inside of the lip but has no markings on it that I can find, inside or outside. Should there be?Please see attached picture and tell me if this is a correct Tiger MK 1A sparewheel or what this might have come off of? I have had this wheel for so many years and no idea where I got it. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. RegardsJoel Martin
