[Tigers] Tiger oil capacity w/non-stock filter

Dave
Ford used the same combination for the engines with generator and a
different set for engines with alternator.

It sounds like you have an alternator set of parts.

Ron ;

As usual you are a veritable library of facts and dimensions of almost
everything Tiger. Thanks for being so diligent.

Do you know if the dipstick/tube ‎sets are the same for 289 blocks? Would
the 289 have a different timing cover that would account for the shorter
stick?

My car came to me with a 289, and the dipstick/tube combination are
considerably different from the dimensions you have for the 260. I have felt
for a long time that my engine has a non-standard stick.

My tube is only 10" long, and the dipstick is correspondingly shorter at 19
1/4". But taking the corresponding dimensions from the tube stop/seating
ring, the "full" mark is out on my stick by roughly 1/2" ‎( the oil level is
1/2" more oil in my crank case.)

Not enough for me to worry about,‎ but it would be nice to know if the 289
specs that level.

Thanks Ron,

Dave

Dave

It looks like I need to investigate the dip stick part further.

The dip stick and dip stick tube should be a matched pair.

Parts List 6601334
1224808 Oil Level indicator NOTE - this is a Rootes part # only
6100734 Oil Level indicator NOTE - this is a Rootes part # for a Ford
part
C4JZ-6750-A seems to be the Ford part #

6100489 C2OZ-6754-A Tube - Oil level indicator

Ford Master Parts Catalog - listed for the 260 engine
C3OZ-6750-B 22.48" shield to full, 23.32" shield to Add, 24.44" shield to
tip
C2OZ-6754-A Tube

This appears to be the correct dip stick and tube combination for the Tiger.

Maybe 1224808 is indicated because Rootes had to modify the dip stick. The
long handle had to be bent to clear the hood.
I'm sure this prompted Rootes to have Ford correct this issue with a new
part - possibly the C4JZ-6750-A part - the "J" in this part # indicates a
Ford Industrial Group supplied part.

The later Tiger dip stick has the handle loop tighter to the shield with
only a slight bend.

The C3OZ-B and C2OZ-A parts are being reproduced by Scott Drake.

Ron…..thanks…this is so helpful and I will measure the stick and tube
against David’s spec. The tube and stick were obtained from SS as “dipstick
for generator cars” (TM50/TM54), but no other part number given.

It is very possible you do not have the original dip stick. I'm not
sure I have the original in my engine either.

There is no indication about when this part change occurred.

Here is an email from David Franchi - 8/12/2004 with some measurements.

The original dip stick & tube measurements are:
Stick - 24 7/16" from the tip to the inside top of the "bell" cover/dust
guard.
Oil "add" mark 1 1/8" from tip, oil "full" mark 2" from tip.
--
Tube - 15 15/16" overall. 14 3/4" from the top of the "stop/seating ring"
(were it goes into the timing gear cover) to the top of the tube. 7 5/16"
from the top of the tube to the center of the "mounting wing".
--
With the stick installed in the tube, the tip of the stick protrudes 9 1/2"
out of the end of the tube. (measured from the tip of the stick to the
bottom of the tube "stop/seating ring")
