Hello All:
I am the owner, as some of you know, of a late model MkIA,
B382002384LRXFE, which came off the line in late August, 1966. I bought
the Tiger in October, 1966. It has a B19KC engine which was originally
painted blue. When the car was a year or two old, I took the original
two-bbl carb and manifold off and replaced it with a new manifold and
4-bbl(Weiand and Holley, respectively) and saved the old parts. The
spacer for the 2-bbl is made of aluminum, I believe, and was painted the
original blue color. It's finish has survived pretty nicely, unlike the
old manifold's. If anyone is interested, I can send a pic, as I did for
Andy Walker and Ron Fraser, a while ago. It appears to me, as others
have indicated, that the color is a match to Duplicolor DE 1606.
Ron has explained the probable sequence of events with Ford and why the
later engines ended up being painted blue and he is the resident
authority. Ron has also graciously shared the info he has about engines
and I have been gradually putting it into the TE/AE newsletter, /Rootes
//Review/, of which I am the new editor. Interesting stuff. The first
installment appeared in the May issue and there will be more in the June
issue. It is folks like Ron who make the hobby worthwhile. Thanks, Ron.
I would urge everyone to fill out Ron's data sheet and add to the database.
Unfortunately, when I had my Tiger repainted back in 2001, the guy
thought my engine had been painted the wrong color and, trying to do me
a favor, painted the engine a differentshade of blue while he had it out
of the car. I voiced my displeasure at the time, but he didn't offer to
correct the mistake, so my engine is the color that Ford used in 1967
(my MkIA is registered as a '67). Oh, well, someday I will need to take
the engine out and it will be restored to the correct color. The same
guy wanted to remove the VIN tag, but, fortunately, I talked him out of
that.
Cheers,
Tod
