[Tigers] 1966 SUNBEAM TIGER CONVERTIBLE 31500

Cullen,

I ran side pipes for years in the 70's. They only required a bracket- no
frame relief. Sandee's muffler in Culver City did them, back when they were
located on the island in the middle of traffic. These pipes were black, and
they were the perfect length and diameter for this application. Good thing
there were not many speed bumps in those days, though, because clearance was
indeed reduced. Best sounding Tiger I've ever heard on the street!

Bob (and others on the list)

The seller of this car doesnt provide a photo of the undercarriage, but he
does provide some close photos of the side pipe exiting the body near the
front wheel opening. Im trying to consider how the exhaust would be routed
on the car to fit the sidepipes. I assume it would pass beneath the "frame
rail" where it follows the contour of the floor board below the firewall.
But in the photos, the outer rocker looks like it was modified or relieved
some to accommodate the close fitting side pipes. You can barely see ther
where the outer rocker is black instead of red.

Other than a couple of holes drilled to hang a bracket, do sidepipes on a
Tiger require much chassis modification? notching the frame rail for the
exhaust or can it just pass beneath with decreased ground clearance? Not
interested in putting sidepipes on my Tiger, I'm wondering more about what
would be needed to return the Tiger chassis to "original".

Just curious...Cullen
