Plain rubber, yes I agree. But what about hoses with inner layers of
"Nylon" or "Nitrile"? Various manufacturers
make hoses with this stuff claiming to be resistant to modern fuel blends.

I 100% agree. Ethanol destroys rubber. I can personally attest to this. I
had standard Earls stainless braided rubber fuel lines and they
disintegrated after about 4 years. Braided stainless Teflon AN is the way
to go, IMO. Even if ethanol isn't in the fuel in your area, you never know
where you may be driving some time in the future.

Compromise:
AN fittings with braided stainless PTFE lined hose .
