[Tigers] Hydraulic lifts

Is it just me... or do most of these lifts create as many issues as they
solve. The scissors lift seems to create a tunnel that must be
entered/exited only at the front or rear. Also, the concept of craning my
neck upwards to see what I'm doing seems like a perpetual neck/back ache. A
car on jack stands with me lying on a composite of cardboard and an old
blanket seems far more comfortable.
This summer I replaced the transmission in my '64 Studebaker. With
jackstands at the outer corners (far smaller than lift apparatuses) they
still seemed in the way at times. While trying to plan ahead, I still found
"Murphy's Law" required constantly sliding out from under the car for the
required tool (or continued modification of a fabricated part). At least in
this case the lift might have raised the car up in seconds but the rest of
the time I'd have probably loathed the encumbrances.
