Hello,
Thought I'd dash a line off on the current subject. I bought a Prestige
dash when Randy was working out of his garage (he may still be). Went there
before ordering to look at veneers and picked a very burled Carpathian Elm.
Came out the right color, and absolutely beautiful. Perhaps the best single
feature of my Mk1A. Randy says he builds them like Surfboards; totally
sealed so delamination can never reappear. He makes an optional version with a
cover for the cubby box. Not my taste but others have them.
Anyway, if you have a new dash made by anybody, make sure the extra
hole for an aux switch is sized in both hole diameter, and importantly
'hog-out' in the rear for a three position switch. You may want to add a fog
light switch or one for an aux electric fan. On Randy's, he normally makes the
hole diameter a bit too small (probably just like stock, fits the chrome
plug better) but you have to ream it out to get a Lucas switch in there. And
the relief in the rear only fits a two position (much smaller) Lucas
switch. You should have the option of both 2 and 3 position.
Much luck,
Jim Armstrong
