I did a bit more digging and looked at the Lucas Equipment and Service 
Parts list for Rootes - 1966.  It lists two
Direction Indicator switches:

Direction Indicator (Export North America), Model 85SA, Part No. 34720E  and

Direction Indicator and Headlamp Flashing, Model 85SA, Part No. 34719F

This at least tells me that 34720 is not the part you want.  Why the 
different part nos. for the extra position switch, I do not know.  
Perhaps one is a later number, but I don't know which.
