Since the 70's I'm sure that Norm has been contacted  with many more.  As 
incomplete as the registry would have been in the 70's  I'm surprised that it 
would have shown 3000.  Maybe the 3,000 was a  guesstimate???

I see Norm's registry shows 3947 '  survivor count' ...some of those might
not exist any more if they've been  written off ... ( I did a quick scan of 
a
few MK1a's and a couple are dated  to '75 as last entry ) and of course 
there
will be others that have never  been registered with his site ...
I'm gonna guess that there are more  'unregistered' than ones on the 
registry
that no longer exist so I'll say  'more than' 4000   IMHO
