According to the TigersUnited.com *Gear Calculator

, the mph/1000 rpm using *2.88* gears and 165R13 tires, is *24* mph/1000 
rpm.

A *3.07*, using same tires, is *23* mph/1000 rpm. 

At *5500* rpm the corresponding speeds are:

2.88     is      132 mph.

3.07      is     124 mph.

A Ford 5 speed with 0.8 fifth will increase speeds by 20% - providing 
you have the much greater HP required!

Larger tires will increase the speed, at the cost of fender clearances 
front and rear.

See manufacturers data for tire diameter on other sizes.
