Best to error on the safe side. Put in a couple of screws.
Look for rust caused by condensation at the bottom of the
windshield. I've heard of frames crumbling when the
windshield is removed. Rustproof and/or rust convert
as best as you can.

and top latches screw into floating pieces inside the frame. Can these

move laterally enough to cause a problem? Do I need to keep bolts in them to
keep them in position? Or is there movement limited enough to stay put?
