Ross:

Thanks for your input.  I just sent a response to Theo Smith and the lists that addresses your point.  I am running a Lucas sports coil but that shouldn't be enough voltage to screw up the tach operation, especially as they were offered as hotter replacement coils over-the-counter back in "the day."  I'm open to other suggestions, though.
