Alan, I have always dropped the engine and transmission out of the bottom. So I have always had the front crossmember off during reinstallation. It has worked fine for 29 years and about 6 removal/re-installation cycles on two Tigers. So, Yes! moving or loosening the rack will definitely help. Harry Elam B382000471
