Alan, and Tigers,
There are resources available to you concerning the Tiger Maintenance on
TigersUnited.com <http://www.TigersUnited.com/>. Specifically the
Workshop Manual describes the factory recommended procedures for most
any task. On "Engine R&R" the applicable page is:

recommended hoisting procedure (provided you have a Rootes Factory hook
height :-(
There are loads of Rootes info in this document, which is available from
Sunbeam Specialties (and thanks to Rick for his reproduction permission.)
