Took off the drums on the front first. Shoes were glazed and cracked. OK, I need new shoes, but I found the threaded part of the tie rod end on the driver's side was rubbing on the inside of my Minilite replica wheel. There was a distinct groove. So, I have to grind a little off the top of the thread. The I went to the back, Same problem with the shoes, but again on the drivers side a groove was cut into my 175/70 R13 tire by the bracket for the trailing rod. other than that a small leak from the axle flange. On the right so though, I removed the drum and the shoes were soaked with oil. Either the seal or the axle flange leaking there. Other than a gasket, do any of you guys use any sealant like Hylomar AF or Hylomar Red on the gasket at the axle flange. I have not tried it yet but I got the parts. <div>Had a similar issue last year with a leak at the rear axle. I had noticed fluid on the inside of the wheel.

<div>At first I thought it was the wheel cylinder as my master had been showing signs of fluid loss.</div>
<div>I pulled the right side rear off, brake shoes were soaked, wheel cylinder was fine.

<div>I pulled the axle and hub and noticed that the wheel bearing was wet but not packed with grease.</div>
<div>I didn't have a spare gasket, so, in the mean time, I cleaned the one I had with BrakeKleen and</div>
<div>re-packed the wheel bearing.</div>
<div>I then smeared some Permatex #2 non-hardening gasket sealer, like Hylomar, on both sides and re-installed.</div>
<div>Topped off the diff and it has been fine for about the last 6 months.</div>

<div>Oh and the Disappearing brake fluid is the Master cylinder itself. It's an Apple rebuilt that I bought long time ago.
