I took advantage of Vicky Brits sale and ordered a new windscreen in for<br>
the BE, Now I find that 'my guy' who does windshields has retired (just<br>
when you get someone good, they either die or retire!). So I'm looking for<br>
advice on the install. Last time (for the MKII) I took the frame down and<br>
had 'my guy' install it like that, off the car.<br>
Is it easier to do with the frame on the car? It occurred to me that it's<br>
easier to hold when mounted.<br>
Has anyone done this themselves, and if so, advice please? what lubricant<br>
do you use? what tools are indispensible? (other than patience, which I am<br>
getting more of).<br>
And how would you go about removing (to try to save), my Dean of Spridgets<br>
and MG2009 stickers?<br>

Hi Mark! O-Boy the memories! I'm sending 7 photos from the Holy Sprite<br>
Escapade. Frank, Jim Johnson, and I took the windscreen to Mike, owner<br>
of Twin City Glass in Tom's River. There were 6 of us that wrestled<br>
with that bit of rubber only to find that the locking "rope" (the bit of<br>
rubber that goes into the windscreen gasket's groove to spread it) was<br>
too small in diameter (actually it's kind of a rounded triangle, see<br>
photo.) I remember Mike turning the air blue and hollering about "Damn<br>
bootleg rubber!" Had to order the correct size rope...don't know if it<br>
ever came. Best of luck allow a lot of time and beer. It helped to<br>
warm the gasket before installing into the frame channel and you may<br>
have to mitre the corner to look nice. This is not for arthritic hands!<br>
<br>
1 photo - removing the original rope (it's old and dry and usually comes<br>
out in pieces)<br>
2 photo - Mike(blue shirt) and his brother cleaning out ALL the old<br>
gasket from the frame. It was the lubed with some magic liquid they had<br>
(not a spray, soap maybe??)<br>

4 Photo - Call in the professional! Mike trying to get the glass in the<br>
gasket. Some plastic "tire irons" were used to slide around the lip of<br>
the gasket. This is where pliable rubber will help.<br>

used. Make sure it's oriented the correct way when installing. Sorry,<br>
did not get a dimension of the correct size, perhaps from the original<br>
one could measure the dimension.<br>
