When installing on a 948 the answer was to use a thicker 1098 backing plate instead of just grinding off the top of the lip on the thinner 948 plate. I can't help on the 1275 but if the archive is working I think Paul A covered when the change was made and the answer to your problem. If you're against a hard stop something is amiss. I wouldn't force it. Pull the trans back off and see what's going on.
