<div dir="ltr"><div><div><div>I have done a few tanks over the past year, and had good luck with the following sequence of steps.<br><br></div>1. Remove fuel.<br></div>2. Fill tanks with soapy water (I like simple green, but any detergent should work)<br></div>3. Agitate and let settle several times, then drain<br><div>4. Rinse tank a few times with distilled water to get the soap out. (use distilled water to avoid leaving any mineral residue)<br></div><div>5. Put a small amount (like 1/2 gal) of denatured alcohol in the tank and agitate. The alcohol will mix with he water and insure it dries quickly and completely. <br></div><div>6. Dry the inside of the tank. I use a piece of heater hose connected to a hair dryer to dry the tank out.<br></div><div>7. Remove rust and etch the inside of the tank with phosphoric acid. I normally used about 64oz of naval jelly dissolved in 2 gallons of distilled water. SEAL the tank as soon as this goes in to avoid any rust forming on the parts you have etched. <br>8. As soon as all rust is removed, immediately drain the acid and apply your favorite tank sealant. <br><br></div><div>I have done a couple bike tanks and a couple LBC tanks this way over the years.
