 Hi Chuck,
Standard 948 pistons are dished.

Ok I'm a 1275 guy taking apart my first 948.  Pretty similar , I get that.  But I am curious about pistons and crowns.  This motor has flat top pistons that come right up to the head gasket surface on the block.  Just pulled the head and have not flipped it over to pull the pan.So far  it had tubular push rods , Isky valve springs & alloy retainers and the old style copper competition head gasket.   I think I'm onto something here!  Flywheel was lightened with a matched balanced pressure plate.  There's a lot here that tells me this may be a pretty interesting engine once I get to the cam and bottom end hardware. So are 948 pistons flat top or dished? There are no valve reliefs on the piston tops.ChuckStarting another interesting project...------------------------
