I recognize a TON of the things done inside and it's definitely not stock!? ?I believe Winners Circle may have been the builder.? Winners Circle's engine builder passed away a number of years ago so I have no person to explain the mods to do that can be verified.I wanted to find out the main & rod bearing sizes .? So I popped off a rod cap and a main cap to read the bearings.? No bearing size stamped on the back side of the bearings.? VP's logo is clearly there and numbers on either end of the shells but not one indication as to the bearing being standard or undersized. The rod bearing is stamped? 2783 on one end which is a BMC A series rod bearing general shell number.? The other end is stamped 2A 690.? That's it!Main bearing has 4105 on one end & AEA 308 on the other end.??Now!? I simply pulled 2 bearing caps simply to see what they looked like and find sizes so if I thought it needed fresh bearings , it would get them.? ?The main bearings looks brand new with no run time.? Rod bearing looks like possibly 1 race if that.? The stuff in this motor looks like the motor was built 6 months to a year ago!? Outside looks like it's been sitting around for 30+ years. Block was painted black.? Cylinder head ( with Champion N9Y plugs)? was never painted.??Since this motor looks very much like it has a "red" crankshaft in it along with all the period hardware.? ?Trying to keep it from hurting itself ...if I fire it up.....Chuck -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... An attached Word document may be more clear. Group 2 Drive Committee Summary andOverview 2024 (rev 11/25/24a) ? As Group 2 Representative I have reviewed the 2024 DriverCommittee Report.? 2024 is the worse yearfor incidents in Group 2 in the 11 years of being a representative, which isdisappointing.? I have specifically analyzedGroup 2 incidents and have the following concerns and observations: Overall: ?????????Group 2 is 29% of incidents of all race groups(5 plus groups or more during each race weekend) who were in incidentsresulting in contact with other cars or track obstacles.? Sprite and Midgets represent 89% of Group 2incident (we are the problem!).? We dorepresent 50% of the grid in some events, but these numbers are still largerthan what they should be! o??Gingerman = 50% o??Blackhawk Farms = 38% (up to 51 cars in session) o??Grattan = 20% o??Road America = 10% (up to 70 cars in session) o??Ozarks = 33% ?????????In all the following observations belowinvolving 2 cars it is the responsibility of both drivers to be observant andavoid an accident by either backing off and or yielding to other car.? These are my observations and opinions. TheSMRS Most Respected Driver Award applies to all these conditions and is listedbelow. ? Observations: ?????????Driver too close to other car resulting in tooshort of a reaction time to avoid incident. o??4 incidents resulting in collisions o??Corrective action ? provide more room andawareness of being alert to possible quick response for things not going asplanned. ?????????Driver lost control by overdriving and going offtrack only involving them (I personally don?t feel as concerned with thesesituations since there was no contact with other cars and did not impact others, other than body & mechanical repair to driver?s car) o??4 incidents resulting in collisions o??Corrective action - Less aggressive driving andawareness of limit ?????????Driver lost control by overdriving and orspinning involving other cars o??2 incidents resulting in collisions o??Corrective action - Lead driver causing accidentneeds to reduce aggressiveness and know limit.?Second driver needs to anticipate potential condition and be prepared toavoid spinning car. ?????????Driver lost control by mechanical issuesresulting in spin and involving other cars o??1 incident resulting in collisions o??Corrective action- Lead driver causing accidentneeds to check for car reliability as much as is possible.? Second driver needs to anticipate potentialcondition and be prepared to avoid spinning car. ? ? Jim Donato Most Respected Driver (started in 2016 in honor ofJim?s contribution and example of a great respected driver) Criteria: Adriver that exemplifies the meaning of a Vintage Sports Car Most Respected?? Driver includes: Predictable (Stayson racing line and points racers by when being passed or when passing.? Makes sure that over taking driver knows theyare about to be passed and allows room and good judgement), Confident &Observant (Uses mirrors and is aware of others racing nearby) Respectful(Confirms that their race car is mechanically sound and will not cause othersto be injured from improper maintenance.?Can sit down with other competitors and enjoy their company after anysession) Objective(open to other?s comments) Drives Defensively (adjusts for conditions safelyregardless of other driver?s interaction). ? Thank you for all that you have done and will continue to do. Wishing you all of the success on your Elva (she goes) project. We will miss you on the track and I look forward to trying to ski with you at Seven Springs or Hidden Valley this season. Definitely will see you at Put-in Bay. I nominate Jeff and Janet Carloss as the successor Group 2 chair. SMRS Overall - It is hard to believe that for 13 years we have been having great fun on and off the track as the Sprite Midget Race Series. Before SMRS we would be excited if we had 5 Spridgets racing for the weekend. In the beginning there was a lot of time spent promoting through magazine article and internet social media. In my opinion we have grown to a self-sustaining point that is comfortable requiring less promotion. Our numbers (15 cars registered for Spridget Race) have allowed us to have our own exclusive race at all 3 designated SMRS race weekends. I have seen other groups try to have their own exclusive races with less success. Our other emerging strength is a younger group of racers that will continue to keep the SMRS Flag Flying. 2. SMRS Account ? If you have any interest in being a sponsor or have some suggestions of someone that maybe interested, please let me know. Our treasury is minimal and probably can make it through next year. I had medals as awards this year to keep costs down. Please buy our hats, t-shirts and posters to support our supplies and awards. 3. SMRS Contributors ? I appreciate the following that have contributed to our group: * Jeff and Janet Carloss for Poster Design and Sale * Rick Fisk for compiling results and end of season awards * Bob Danielson for the Jim Donato Most Respected Driver Award and updated plaques. * Charlie Hall for Gary Kropf Spirit Piston Award and updated plaques * Colin and Cana for their contribution of annual sticker / decals * Sponsors in our past Erick Zanner, Dave Kessinger and Bob Danielson 4. Spridget Contributors to VSCDA - We appreciate our group?s unselfish contribution to VSCDA making us the largest contributor to VSCDA for volunteering their time and making this club continue to thrive for our enjoyment.: a. Tom Wilcox Blackhawk Event Chairmen. b. Carl Goodwin, Brad & Jeff Carloss for their contributions to Scrutineering / Tech Barn c. Stacey Donato for her overall running of VSCDA registration and all that she does along with her family. Registration assistance from Sheryl Carloss, Janet Carloss, Jeff and Jan Freers and others. d. Charlie Hall, Gary Kropf, Roger Heil, John Salisbury & Jim Donato for Drivers Committee. Gary Kropf initiated the Driver?s Committee Summary of actions, which is greatly appreciated and time consuming. I think measuring something as important as safety is the key to reducing incidents and allowing us to improve. e. Doug Bruce for Homologations and Grattan Corner / Paddock Worker Sprite Door Annual Award selected for the best Grattan worker selected by their peers. f. Jim Donato as VSCDA Vice President and Event Chair of Healey Challenge at 2024 Road America Weekend 1. Driver Incidents Spridgets and Group 2 ? As the VSCDA Group 2 representative I can say that this past year has been one of our worst with mostly SMRS as the problem. Thanks to all of you that maintain the Vintage Spirit while on the track. 2. Stan Mason Resignation ? I will be no longer continue as the lead for the SMRS and have also resigned as Group 2 Representative, which I have filled for the past 10 plus years. I will not race next year. I am in process of restoring a 1958 Elva Sports Racer and taking the lead for the 2025 Elva 70th Reunion at Put-In-Bay, which will require my focus. I am hopeful there will be someone willing within our group to carry on the SMRS or whatever name seems appropriate. I have always believed that having new people at the helm for any group helps grow that group to new heights that may have different direction and vision for an improved Spridget Group. I am happy to help anyone willing to take on this role and have prepared an overview of the responsibilities that I managed along with SMRS treasury, grilling equipment, past awards and gear. I am proud of the success we have had, which exceeded my expectations of fun, camaraderie and good wheel to wheel racing, and I know that momentum will continue. Thanks for all your support throughout the years and Enjoy a Spridgetly Life of Relative Speed! Happy Holidays! Stan Mason -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
