Stan,
A brief message from Italy ( for the time being). You have virtually
single-handedly stirred the energy and spirit of Midwest Spiridget racers
and created a group that races with gusto, helps one another, and
socializes like no other ?gang? in vintage racing. The Cape of Good Hope
Pub was/is unique and 100% Stan Mason  style!

Thanks for your dedication and work. And I?ll get that header to you soon!

I'm still here too, getting close to 30 years. I still have a Bugeye but 
getting too old to drive it.? I sold my 100, TR4, BGT, Midgets and 
Mustangs but kept my Bugeye.

Yes I hope all is well with our Spridgeteers and their Spridgets : )

I hope to give my Spridget much more love than the previous few years.
Funny how things go, I either have lots of Spridget time and no Spridget
money or lots of Spridget money and no Spridget time. Somehow I need to
balance that out.

I'll update this spring as I bought my Carb rebuild kit from Joe Curto
several years ago, I made an exploded view poster, reread a few HS2 carb
tuning/cleaning books (newest Tuning S.U. Carburetters from Speed Sport
MettoBooks which is still available online as a Pdf) and now I'm ready. The
one most important thing I have read was from The Dean of Spridgets, Frank
Clarici. He said to clean & assemble one carb at a time and never mix the
parts. He said never mix the dashpots, and pistons, he even said not to mix
the springs either. Frank's wisdom lives on, his ability to motivate and
inspire confidence in all of us continues.

1.?????When I initiated the SMRS my goal was to beinclusive with most Sprites with the intent of bringing more Spridgets to raceas the vision.? I thought that once a highly modified Spridget saw moreVintage Appropriate Spridgets they would want to back date their cars.?That never happened, in fact just the opposite.?VSCDA?s rules and regulation identify 1972 SCCA GCR and PCS if a car is outsideof those rules those cars could participate as Mod1 or Mod 2.? The reinforcement of these rules are a timeconsuming challenge that is difficult to apply.?The SMRS rules and regulations were initiated by me and fit within VSCDArules.? They were reviewed with 3 otherSpridget Aware assistants before issuing to Spridget distribution.? Initially I tried to put us in groups where abilityand car prep were similar.? Three yearslater I realized this made it even more subjective, which is when we had moreconcrete rules and a 1972 SCCA GCR to reference.? There were many assumptions made on what waslegal and illegal.? To counter this misinformation,I had a reference sheet to help with understanding the differences.? I am attaching SMRS Rules and Regulations andwould encourage anyone wanting to understand the differences to read them.? It is a double edge sword to allow more highlymodified Spridgets in with the positive being more Spridgets to race with andbetter numbers to support race expenses.?The other side of that coin is for those adhering to 1972 SCCARegulations it becomes a frustration for trying to be authentic and lesscompetitive.? Like most things in life thereis never a perfect solution, but with some compromise hopefully the majority ofSpridget Racers will enjoy a good time on and off the track.

It is a double edge sword to allow more highlymodified Spridgets in with the positive being more Spridgets to race with andbetter numbers to support race expenses.?The other side of that coin is for those adhering to 1972 SCCARegulations it becomes a frustration for trying to be authentic and lesscompetitive.? Like most things in life thereis never a perfect solution, but with some compromise hopefully the majority ofSpridget Racers will enjoy a good time on and off the track.
