 My Fellow Spridetsannnss,
Things are shaping up good for Grattan with lots of fun planned and of course end of season SMRS awards.  When you arrive Thursday be aware of late entry into Paddock expected for 6PM unless Grattan Track Renters leave early.  Kathy Newton will have assistants laying out our paddock space and I will try to get to our location as soon as I can to place our Spridget Signs on the perimeter.  I am going to attempt to place our trailers parallel to paddock road on Northside.  This always takes more time trying to snake in trailer and disconnect tow vehicles, so please be patient.  The following is an update of the agenda at this point in time, which is a good guide for our SMRS Point Sessions, Brat Lunch and Fun!I look forward to seeing everyone and encourage safe driving in the Vintage Spirit of Competition!  Please make a special point of thanking those that contribute to our fun and Event Chair Kathy Newton's organization to make Grattan paddock placements as Sane as possible!Stan Mason

2024 Grattan SMRS Agenda/ Plans

8/2/24

The following is what I expect to happen based onpreliminary schedule published.  Becauseof various issues at track they could be delayed.

Group 2 (Production Based Sports Cars from 1950-63) will be GrattanRace Group C or 3rd group out on track at Grattan.  This is the group that Sprites race in.

Thursday 8/9/24 –

·        Arrive at track and set up Spridget Paddockspace

·        Enter Paddock 6PM unlessThursday renters leave early

·        Dinner Grattan Pub

Friday 8/10/24 –

·        10:00 AM – Practice

·        11:40 AM – Practice

·        2:10 PM – Qualify (SMRS Fastest Time Points)

·        4 PM - Cape of Good Hope Portable Pub fortoasting our heroes of the past and King of England

·        6 PM – BBQ at the Big Top Tent

Saturday 8/11/24 –

·        8:20 AM - Drivers Meeting

·        9:25 AM – Qualify

·        11:05 AM – Sprint Race (SMRS Durability Points)

·        12:30 PM - SMRS Brat Lunch

·        2:00 PM – Heat Race

·        6:00 PM – BBQ at the Big Top Tent

Sunday 8/12/24 -

·        9:50 AM – Sprite Midget Race ( SMRS Finishing Position Points)

·        11:50 AM – Feature Race

·        12:30 PM – SMRS Brat Lunch & end of seasonawards

·        Pack up and go home

We will have ballots for our 2 Special Awards please reviewand pick up ballots and vote:

A. Gary Kropf Spirit Award for Vintage Spridgets (Traveling LargePiston Award). Criteria: 

1. Fast, safe, courteous driver,(promotes the “vintage spirit”) 

2. Assists others within thepaddock – repairs, parts, advice. Willing to jump into help and assist otherSpridget make the next session. 

3. Quick to organize groupactivity – brats for lunch “all pork weekend”, watching other group races, fromthe best vantage points, coordinating seating at dinner, etc. 

4. Volunteers with the VSCDA oncommittees, and sub-committees 

B. Jim Donato Sprite Midget Race Series Most Respected Driver Award(Traveling Steering Wheel in a display case Award) Criteria: 

1. Predictable / Trusted (usesmirrors, points faster cars by, passes safely and allows others room to passand is always a defensive driver over winning at all cost), stays on racingline except when car failures would leave fluids on track or safety is aconcern) 

2. Objective: Listens to othersand approaches other drivers that they may have an issue with in an open and fair way. Can sitdown with any driver and feel comfortable that they did the right thing when onthe track. 

3. Observant: Looks forward toobserve incidents and flag stations, inspects car between sessions for safetyto avoid causing accidents to others on track. 

4. Respectful: Avoids Red Mist,which is identified as an emotional win at all costs attitude and maintainsVintage Spirit Philosophy.
