I was a little surprised when the ignition light would not go out after I got the engine running. It started easy enough, but I was now running on the battery. I am still using a generator that was rebuilt over 20 years and 7,000 miles ago. The voltage regulator was converted to solid state eight or more years ago. Nothing apparent looking under the bonnet. I was hoping it was just the fan belt. No such luck. Generator, generator brushes? I have a replacement generator, but I don't want to just start throwing parts at it until the light goes out. Maybe try to just re-polarize the generator first? I have a degree in mechanical design, not electrical. Hate electrical problems. This engine (1275) has less than 3 thousand miles on it. Engine was punched out to 1330. It has 1.5 rockers, ARP hardware, head combustion chambers were CC'd. ported/polished, timing belt conversion, distributor rebuilt by Advanced Distributttor, single HIF44 carb and Maniflow exhaust. In other words I have dumped a lot of money in this engine. I thought I might get a few more miles on it than this. Crap. Because this is a thermal flasher and LED's don't produce much of a load, the flasher doesn't work- which I expected. Now I'm having a tough time figuring out what the plug-and-play equivalent flasher is. Under the hood & looking at the socket pinout for the flasher the power is on the right, the panel lights are on the top and the corner lights are on the left.
