When I had the car repainted for the 2008 Lake of the Ozarks 50th the body shop was heavy handed and the top most pin was pulled so hard to install the speed nut it cracked the metal of the grill around it. Not super evident until you get close. Up close you can see the crack at the peak of the grill. I bought a replacement grill from AH Spares and it arrived today. First of all, it is a bad pressing that lacks the detail at the top edge. On the original there is a definite border edge. The repro has no such detail. Maybe not important to some people, but it bugs me. Second, the grill came bent at the bottom. See picture below. Both ends bent like this. The chrome is cracked at the bend also. I used a bottoming tap so the holes that I tapped would not go completely through. The were countersunk on the outside so nothing would stand proud of the surface. I had seen this type of attachment on an old Ferrari and figured if it is good enough for one of those then it work on a ?lowly? Sprite. Still holding. When I bought the plexiglass to use as a replacement I also bought a long "bar" of plastic the same size as the original "handles". I just cut two handles off to length and polished the sharp edges and glued them on.I can see where the drill and tap method would work too, just more work though. That being said, I hardly ever use the sidescreens here in SoCal. In fact the top is just about never up. Strongly recommend getting a copy of Manley Ford's monograph that goes through the entire funhouse turn by turn with specific recommendations on how to approach each one.
